Sam Smith is not the first gay Oscar Winner

Nerves: British singer Sam Smith has revealed he failed to fully enjoy the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday

The Writing's on the wall singer Sam Smith was not happy at this years Oscar Awards. Why?

The singer won an Oscar for his Bond theme song, but even that didn't make him stay happy for the whole night.

"That was the worst moment of my life,' he said. 'Singing was horrible. I hated every minute."

He then went into more detail on Twitter and said -
"I've never been so f*****g nervous in my entire life. PHWOAAAAAAAR'"

Daunting: 'That was the worst moment of my life,' he said. 'Singing was horrible. I hated every minute' he said

Joking? Although it's not clear whether the singer was being facetious, he had also taken to Twitter to declare: 'I've never been so f*****g nervous in my entire life. PHWOAAAAAAAR'

On Sunday he dedicated his Academy Award for best original song to the LGBT community.

However, his big moment quickly went a different direction when he claimed he was the first openly gay star to win an Academy Award.

But screenwriter Dustin Lance Black was not very happy as he took his feelings on Twitter. He went to Twitter to remind Sam that he'd won an Academy Award himself for Best Original Screenplay in 2009 for Milk.

The openly-gay star also took the opportunity to publicly blast Sam for 'texting' his fiancé Tom Daley, sending social media into meltdown with his cutting comment. Ouch.

Honest mistake: His big moment quickly his the skids when he claimed he was the first openly gay star to win an Academy Award

Retort: Clearly not impressed, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black hit back on Twitter, reminding Sam that he'd won an Academy Award himself for Best Original Screenplay in 2009 for Milk

Sam later took to Twitter tom post a hat-trick of apologies and explanations.

The first tweet said: "Apologies for the mix up @DLanceBlack I'll be sure to check out your films now x Belated Congrats on the Oscar x".
After getting more backlash he added: "My point was to shine some light on the LGBT community who I love so dearly."
Minutes later he said: "Second openly gay man to win an oscar or third or fourth or 100th, It wasn't my point' [sic]."
Overall, Sam found out that he wasn't the first gay to win an Oscar.
